Anxiety (Generalised Anxiety Disorder, phobia, panic disorder and OCD)

Anxiety manifests in various forms, each with unique features but a shared core of excessive fear or worry. Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) involves persistent, uncontrollable worry about everyday matters. Phobias are intense, irrational fears triggered by specific objects or situations. Panic Disorder is marked by sudden, recurrent panic attacks and the fear of their recurrence. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) includes intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviours (compulsions) aimed at reducing distress. These conditions can significantly impact daily functioning, but evidence-based treatments – particularly cognitive-behavioural therapy – are highly effective in managing symptoms.

For some people there are deeper factors involved, such as past trauma and unresolved issues, which are generating the symptoms and this can also be addressed utilising family, psychodynamic and schema therapies.

Depression is more than just feeling sad—it’s a pervasive condition that affects how a person thinks, feels and functions. It often involves persistent low mood, loss of interest or pleasure in activities, changes in sleep and appetite, fatigue, difficulty concentrating and feelings of worthlessness or guilt. For some, it may also include thoughts of death or suicide. Depression can impact every area of life, but it is treatable. Evidence-based therapies, such as cognitive-behavioural therapy and, in some cases, medication, can provide significant relief and support recovery.

PTSD can develop after exposure to traumatic events such as abuse, neglect, violence or other overwhelming experiences. It may involve intrusive memories, nightmares, heightened anxiety, emotional numbness or a strong desire to avoid reminders of the trauma. These reactions are the mind’s way of coping with what feels unmanageable or unsafe. Left untreated, PTSD can deeply impact one’s relationships, sense of security and day-to-day functioning. Our psychologists provide a safe, supportive space to process trauma and use evidence-based approaches – such as trauma-focused cognitive-behavioural therapy and EMDR – to support healing and recovery.

All relationships face challenges, but ongoing conflict, miscommunication or emotional distance can strain even the strongest bonds. Whether between partners or within families, unresolved issues often stem from unmet needs, differing expectations or past hurts. Our psychologists help couples and families navigate these dynamics, improve communication and rebuild connection through evidence-based, collaborative therapy. Together, we work toward healthier patterns and stronger, more fulfilling relationships.

Managing emotions effectively is key to psychological well-being, yet many people struggle with intense or overwhelming feelings that affect their relationships, decision-making or sense of control. Emotion regulation involves recognizing, understanding and responding to emotions in healthy, balanced ways. Our psychologists help individuals build skills to manage emotional ups and downs, reduce reactivity and develop greater resilience—supporting more grounded and intentional responses to life’s challenges.

Persistent physical symptoms—such as pain, fatigue, or gastrointestinal issues—can sometimes occur without a clear medical explanation, yet they are very real and distressing. These symptoms may be linked to underlying emotional or psychological stress, often rooted in trauma, chronic stress or unresolved emotional conflict. Our psychologists help individuals understand the mind-body connection, explore contributing emotional factors and develop strategies to reduce symptoms and improve overall quality of life through evidence-based, integrative care.

Living with a chronic health condition can take a significant emotional toll, often leading to stress, anxiety, depression or feelings of isolation. The ongoing demands of managing symptoms, medical appointments and lifestyle changes can affect mood, identity and relationships. Our psychologists support individuals in coping with the psychological impact of chronic illness, helping them build resilience, navigate uncertainty and enhance their quality of life through evidence-based, compassionate care.

Living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can bring unique strengths—as well as challenges with attention, emotional regulation, communication or daily routines. These conditions can impact academic, work and social functioning across the lifespan. Our psychologists provide individualised, strengths-based support to help children, teens and adults better understand their neurodiversity, build practical skills and improve quality of life through evidence-based interventions and collaborative care. We offer comprehensive assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) to support NDIS funding applications and access to appropriate services.
